Asset-forfeiture unit granted preservation order for Merc used during unrest
The driver at the time, Mbuso Moloi is going back to court on October 12, 2021.

The Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) in KwaZulu-Natal obtained a Preservation of Property Order from the Durban High Court, for the Mercedes Benz C300 Coupe, belonging to Mbuso Moloi.
This Merc was made famous when a video of its driver, Mbuso Moloi went viral when he was caught walking back to his Mercedes Benz, on July 12, with a basket of items from a popular retail store in Glenwood during the looting spree in Durban.

According to Natasha Kara Regional Spokesperson for the Directors of Public Prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal (DPP KZN), Moloi is currently faces charges of theft and public violence.

“The car which was preserved on the basis that it is an instrumentality of the offences, has an estimated market value of about R507 000. The car will remain with the state until the court grants a forfeiture order, “said Kara.
In addition, she said the criminal matter against Moloi returns to court on 12 October 2021.
He is out on bail of R5 000 with reporting conditions.
