ATM bombing leaves 1 dead in Roodepoort

Police are searching for ATM bombers who targeted the Sasol Mozart service station early this morning.

A brazen ATM bombing and shoot-out shook the Roodepoort community and night shift workers at the Sasol Mozart service station on Paul Kruger Road and Mozart Street.

At about 02:00 this morning, community WhatsApp groups reported gunfire and a loud explosion, prompting security companies to go to the scene.

Tragically, one person died.

The heavily armed bombers fled into the nearby greenbelt.

According to a statement released by BCI Security, a helicopter was deployed to aid in the search, but no arrests have been made.

Residents should remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to their local authorities, as the police have taken over the investigation.

The Roodepoort Northsider requested comment from the police, however, none was forthcoming by the time of publishing.
