Attempted cash-in-transit heist near White River: 1 suspect killed, another wounded

One suspect killed and another injured in a shoot-out during an attempted cash-in-transit robbery near White River.

An attempted cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery took place yesterday near White River. CIT guards shot two of the attackers during the incident.

According to Lowvelder, preliminary reports indicate that an unidentified number of persons attacked a cash van in an attempted robbery but fled the scene during a shoot-out with security personnel.

One of the attackers died at the scene, while another sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention under police guard.

Two rifles were recovered at the scene. A Ford Ranger believed to have been used by the gang was found abandoned in Swalala, near Masoyi.

According to initial investigations, no money was stolen during the attempted heist.

The public is urged to come forward with any information relating to this incident. Information can be provided by contacting the SAPS or reported anonymously through the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111, or via the MySAPS app. All information received will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.
