UPDATE | Two shot in attempted cash-in-transit heist

One attacker was shot dead and another wounded.

An attempted cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery took place today, Thursday, May 15, near White River. CIT guards shot two of the attackers during the incident.

Preliminary reports indicate that an unidentified number of persons attacked a cash van in an attempted robbery, but fled the scene during a shootout with security personnel.

One of the attackers succumbed to his wounds at the scene, while another sustained wounds and is currently receiving medical attention under police guard.

Two rifles were recovered at the scene. A Ford Ranger believed to have been used by the gang was found abandoned in Swalala, near Masoyi.

According to initial investigations no money was stolen during the attempted heist.
