B&B scamming couple allegedly strikes again in Amanzimtoti

It is said that a leopard doesn't change its spots – and that seems to also ring true for a couple out on bail for defrauding guesthouses.

A young couple that was arrested in August for allegedly defrauding guesthouses, is apparently up to their old tricks again after being released on bail.

George Snodey of the Community Crime Prevention Organisation has cautioned guesthouse operators to be on the lookout after another guesthouse was allegedly defrauded.

When they were arrested on August 26, the pair had allegedly stayed at a number of guesthouses around Amanzimtoti and would submit a fake proof of payment when it was time to pay.

Their arrest came after they allegedly used the same trick to defraud a popular guesthouse in Athlone Park after staying there for two days.

Snodey said since they were released on bail, another guesthouse has been defrauded in the same manner, allegedly by the same couple.

“It seems they are continuing their scam while on bail, so please confirm payments in your account and don’t only rely on the client’s own proof of payment,” said Snodey.
