Behardien retires from cricket
Farhaan Behardien has called time on his 18-year cricket career.
Former Proteas cricketer Farhaan Behardien has decided to retire after a professional that lasted almost two decades.
The 39-year-old spent the majority of it at the Titans, winning 16 trophies in 14 years before departing in January 2020. He ended his domestic career with Boland.
‘Fudgie’, as he is known affectionately, holds the record for the fastest half-century in domestic T20 cricket – an unbeaten 55 off 15 balls (50 from 14) for the Titans in the 2016/17 T20 Challenge semi-final against the Warriors.
Behardien represented the Proteas from 2012 to 2018, scoring 1 074 runs in 59 ODIs at an average of 30.68 and a strike rate of 97.90, and 518 runs in 38 T20Is at an average of 32.37 and a strike rate of 128.21.
“I lived my dreams,” he said on social media. “To be honest, it wasn’t easy. The good stuff rarely are. But as a result I haven’t ‘worked’ a day in 18 years, because it was my passion and I loved the graft.
