Body found dumped in Inanda identified by Hillary mom

The body of a Durban woman who was found earlier this week at an Inanda sports ground has been identified by her mother.

THE body of a murdered young woman, found by the community members at the sports ground at Newtown A in Inanda, has been identified by her mother.

On Monday, 2 November police released a statement saying a murder investigation was underway: “Today at 7am, a body of an unknown female in her 20s was found by the community members at the sports ground at Newtown A with her throat slit and hands cut,” said Col Thembeka Mbele.

“A case of murder was opened at Inanda police station for investigation,” said Mbele, who urged anyone with information on the incident or the identity of the deceased to contact their local police or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Jessica Weyers was last seen on Sunday, 1 November.

A post on Facebook by South Africa Community Crime Watch  (SACCW) was widely circulated on social media.

On Thursday afternoon police confirmed that the woman’s body found in Newtown A was that of Weyers.

Shortly before 2pm today the KwaZulu-Natal SAPS Media centre confirmed the identity of the victim.

“The deceased has been identified by her mother as Jessica Weyers aged 23 from Hillary,” said Mbele.

“Inanda police are investigating a case of murder and no arrest has been made at this stage.”
