Body of ‘looter’ found crushed in Westmead
The man’s body was discovered days later by business owners.

THE body of a man, who is believed to have been a looter, was found crushed underneath a collapsed guardhouse in Westmead.
According to Emer-G-Med’s Kyle Van Reenen, the body was discovered at about 23:00 last night (July 17).
“Reports from the scene indicated that during the recent looting, a truck had rammed a guard house causing the structure to collapse. On closer inspection, the business owners believed there to be a body beneath the rubble,” said Van Reenen.
A specialised search and rescue team, medical response units and SAPS search and rescue unit were called to the scene.
The man, believed to be 30 years old, was found trapped beneath the debris. Hydraulic rescue tools were used to remove the debris. He was declared deceased on arrival.
“It is believed that the man was a looter and was entrapped and killed when the structure collapsed earlier in the week,” said Van Reenen.
