Bogus prophet wanted for rape
Police are looking for a man believed to be a bogus prophet after he allegedly raped a woman in Ivory Park, outside Midrand, Gauteng.
“[She] said the suspect first identified himself as a plain-clothed police officer, and later he said he was a prophet,” Sekgobela said.
The suspect allegedly prophesied things she had gone through, which the victim felt were true.
The suspect then reportedly told the victim he had to pray for her and lured her to a house along the street, where he could pray for her in private.
At the house the suspect allegedly asked a lady who was there if he could use the toilet.
“The suspect convinced the victim to go to the toilet with him as it was private enough to pray in immediately. Once in the toilet, he raped her and then stole her belongings she had left in his car,” she said.
The victim then reported the incident, which took place on February 6, to police.
Police investigations are under way.
In another incident, a 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with rape and robbery in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, earlier this month.
The man allegedly raped an unemployed 27-year-old woman after pretending to be a prospective employer.
