Bok jerseys taken in burglary but world cup replica trophy safe

Two men are wanted after a business burglary at the South African Rugby Union offices last night.

“All trophies [are] safe.”

These are the words of a spokesperson for the South African Rugby Union (Saru) following a burglary at their offices in a Plattekloof business park in Cape Town.

According to Western Cape police media liaison officer FC van Wyk, Parow police registered two cases of business burglary following two incidents at around 20:00 yesterday.

He said that according to reports, two well-dressed men entered the business park in a white Toyota Corolla. Once they arrived at the building that houses Saru’s offices, they forced open a window on the ground floor and entered the building.

Five signed Springbok jerseys, whisky and eight laptops were taken from Saru’s premises.

“From the other company, 60 laptops were taken. Thereafter, they left the building and drove away,” he explained.

It is believed a replica Webb Ellis Cup – the trophy handed to the winners of the Rugby World Cup – is kept in a safe in the same building.

Van Wyk asks that anyone with information contact the investigating officer, Lieutenant Colonel Adrian Pretorius, on 082 777 8499. Alternatively, call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
