Brave teens saluted for saving duiker from the Uvongo lagoon
The boys didn't think twice and jumped into the lagoon to help rescue the buck which was stranded on a rocky ledge just to left of the waterfall.
Two teenagers are being hailed as heroes for saving the life of a little grey duiker which was stranded in the Uvongo lagoon last week.
Friends Dawie de Bruin (17) and Joshua Pelser (16) were on the beach when they saw Inspector Jacob Maduna and inspectorate assistant Siyabonga Ndlovu from the Lower South Coast SPCA trying to rescue the distressed animal.
The third teen who was involved in the rescue has been identified on social media as Riarco Shaw.

The boys didn’t think twice and jumped into the lagoon to help rescue the buck which was stranded on a rocky ledge just to the left of the waterfall.
The boys lifted the animal off the ledge and swam with it to where the SPCA officials were waiting in a paddle boat.
Together, the group made its way to land, the buck safely aboard.
The traumatised duiker was checked over by the SPCA’s resident veterinarian and later released.
Inspector Maduna said the boys needed to be commended for their bravery in leaping from the top of the waterfall, a very dangerous practise which is strongly discouraged, and swimming towards the rocks to rescue the animal.
Carla Steenkamp, vice chairman of the SPCA said the organisation was proud of the boys and thanked them for their help.
“We will definitely be rewarding them for their bravery later this month,” she added.
