Bus driver brothers murdered in Ndwedwe, numerous passengers injured
The owner of the bus company was also gunned down in Tongaat last month.
Two brothers employed as bus drivers by Injabulo Bus Services were shot and killed while driving in Ndwedwe on Monday.
Driving different buses between Nyuswa and Sonkombo, they were murdered 8km apart.
In the first incident, it is alleged the driver was shot multiple times by a passenger who then jumped off, causing the bus to hurtle up an embankment before overturning, resulting in a number of passengers being injured.
In the second incident, the driver was shot in the head and a 35-year-old female passenger was wounded in the leg.
The 36- and 38-year-old men both died at the scenes of the shootings and Ndwedwe police are investigating.
“The injured passengers were taken to hospital for treatment. The motive for the shootings is unknown at this time,” said police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele.
Reaction Unit SA (RUSA) spokesperson, Prem Balram, said the owner of the bus company was also gunned down in Tongaat last month.
He said paramedics had to enter the overturned bus through the front windscreen but were unable to save the driver.
He said the suspects are believed to have fled in a silver Toyota Etios from which the number plates had been removed.
