Canadian tourist killed in Kruger National Park shooting incident

A guided bush outing near Phabeni Gate ended in tragedy after a visitor was killed when a guide’s gun allegedly discharged accidentally.

A guest was killed at a concession-operated braai picnic site near Phabeni Gate in the Kruger National Park (KNP) last night (June 17), reports Lowvelder.

According to KNP general manager of communications and marketing Rey Thakhuli, preliminary information indicates that a private guide attached to the concession operator allegedly discharged a firearm accidentally, killing a 69-year-old Canadian guest.

“The guest was part of a group booked outside the park and only came in for a bush braai offered by a private concession with a valid permit to operate within the park,” said Thakhuli.

SANParks has extended its condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased.

Police are on the scene conducting an investigation.
