Child escapes, alerts police to abuse at Evander disciplinary camp

Authorities rescued 20 children from an abusive disciplinary camp near Evander after one escaped and reported the conditions.

Evander police, with the help of the Department of Justice, have shut down a disciplinary camp after a child ran away and reported abuse.

Ridge Times reports that 20 children from eMbalenhle and other provinces, including KZN and Gauteng, were rescued from the camp yesterday.

Police are on the scene.

Some children have bruises from alleged abuse.

The owner pretended to be speaking on his cellphone and then escaped.

Police are currently searching for the owner, who is on the run.
