Children jump from hijacked vehicle

Two children are still missing after reportedly jumping from a hijacked vehicle in Centurion last night.

The hijackers are believed to have fled the scene in the hijacked vehicle with the mother still inside,Rekord Centurion reported.

According to Chris Evans, chairperson of Lyttelton CPF LS7, a mother and her two children were hijacked at about 8.45pm by four men on the corner of Rabie and End streets.

Evans said: “An eyewitness informed us that the children jumped out of the Citi Golf and ran into the field.”

He added members from CPF LS1, LS5, Lyttelton CrimeStop, Lytcom, ADT, MonitorNet, CopWatch and police were searching for the children.

This after hijackers forced a family out of their vehicle before speeding off with it in Tembisa, on the East Rand, last week.

Ekurhuleni Metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said a firearm was put to the woman’s head by an assailant, who demanded keys to her VW Polo.

“The driver was with her mother and children, who were deeply traumatised by the incident,” said Kgasago.

The driver, a Metro police employee, had been hijacked at her home in Hospital View in Tembisa.

In a separate incident, Taegrin Morris (4) was killed after being dragged alongside a vehicle following a hijacking incident in Reiger Park in July last year.

No arrests had been made. However, a man was taken in for questioning after an identity parade.

Police have offered a R100 000 reward for information that would lead to the arrest of the boy’s killers.
