Community, K9 unit search for missing KZN toddler

The child was last seen when he was left in the care of his grandmother while his mother went to fetch water.

A couple from Etete in the Dolphin Coast is frantically searching for their missing child after their 21-month-old boy went missing on Monday afternoon.

According to the mother, Phelelwa Mangomba, she left her son, Mvelo, with his grandmother while she fetched water from another shack about 10m away.

Mvelo Mangomba has been missing since Monday afternoon.

When she returned the child was nowhere to be seen. According to the grandmother, the boy followed his mother.

“We looked around the yard with his father, who was sleeping when the boy went missing, but there was no sign of him,” says Mangomba.

Community members also joined the search.

Warrant officer Clinton Odayar of the Umhlali police K9 unit conducted a search yesterday but no leads were found.

Police will continue the search today.

Community members were still searching for Mvelo when the North Coast Courier left the area.
