Compensation Fund commits to paying beneficiaries amid concerns

The Department of Employment and Labour reassured South African’s that it is committed to secure payment methods for its beneficiaries.

This affirmation was made after it issued a notice regarding a call for comments for the Compensation Fund’s proposed improved way of paying out beneficiaries.

According to the department, the issued notice, that essentially called for comments, has created an impression that it was designed to damage workers’ rights and harm medical service providers.

“Nothing could be further from the truth. The Compensation Fund continues to improve the way it pays out claims to beneficiaries in an efficient and effective manner. This means paying the right person the right amount as soon as it is practical,” said commissioner, Vuyo Mafata who heads the Fund.

Mafata said the account verification system that was recently introduced by the Fund is designed to do just that.

The notice published will enable the Fund to obtain views from stakeholders to continue to improve and strengthen its systems of internal control.

“These are the things that the Public Finance Management Act requires from us: that we improve internal controls and ensure an efficient and effective process for claims. We are doing just that and we would welcome views from all stakeholders, hence we issued the notice,” said Mafata.
