Cops granted bail after allegedly demanding bribe
The Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court granted two policewomen R1 500 bail each yesterday after they allegedly demanded a bribe and threatened to kill two motorists and their passengers.
It is believed the constables stationed at Krugersdorp police station pulled over two vehicles in Krugersdorp North on the West Rand earlier this year. The pair then allegedly demanded a bribe after threatening the drivers and their passengers, Krugersdorp News reported.
One of the police officer allegedly said to the passengers: “Do you want to f**cking die tonight? I will kill you!”. She then instructed the driver to withdraw R2 000 in cash for a bribe.
The suspects are due back in court on September 23.
Police spokesperson Constable Tshepiso Mashale confirmed one of the two police officers has been linked to a female warrant officer who was caught allegedly shoplifting at Cradlestone Mall last month.
Caught by staff members, she and her colleague apparently tried to steal a headphone set worth R1 000 and a USB modem worth R149 before racially abusing staff members at the shop.A shop assistant, Amanda Chili, said the two women arrived in the store at about 10am.
The one policewoman, a warrant officer who inquired about the different sizes of the USB modems, was later found with one in her possession, while the constable was caught putting headphones into the left-side bottom pocket of her trousers. They were arrested for shoplifting and made a brief appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.
