Covid-19: 34 357 confirmed cases in SA, death toll climbs to 705
The number of confirmed cases increased by 1 674 since Friday and 17 more people have died.
South Africa now has a total of 34 357 confirmed Covid-19 cases, the Department of Health announced on Monday.
This is an increase of 1 674 new infections from Sunday.
To date, 742 742 Covid-19 tests have been conducted.
Seventeen more deaths have also been recorded bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the country to 705.
According to data released by the Department of Health, 16 808 recoveries have been recorded to date.
The Western Cape, which remains the epicentre of the outbreak in South Africa, has a total of 22 567 people infected.
The following confirmed Covid-19 cases have been detected in each province, according to the data released on Monday:
- Western Cape: 22 567 cases
- Gauteng: 4 231 cases
- KwaZulu-Natal: 2 565 cases
- Eastern Cape: 4 111cases
- Limpopo: 192 cases
- Mpumalanga: 131 cases
- North West: 187 cases
- Northern Cape: 82 cases
- Free State: 285 cases
- Unallocated: six cases
