Covid-19: Mkhize reports 3 707 new cases for 22 August
Over 30 000 tests were conducted since the previous report.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize announced that 3 707 Covid-19 cases were reported on 22 August, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 607 045.
The total number of deaths due to the virus is now 12 987. There were an additional 144 deaths reported on 22 August. There were 25 deaths from the Eastern Cape, 37 deaths from Gauteng, 46 deaths from Mpumalanga, 31 deaths from KwaZulu-Natal and five from the Western Cape.
Mkhize said that there have been 504 127 recoveries, which translates to an 83 per cent recovery rate.
There are 89 881 active cases. Gauteng accounts for 33.8 per cent of all cases, while KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape follow with 18 per cent and 17.2 per cent of cases respectively. The Eastern Cape accounts for 14 per cent of cases and the Free State accounts for 5.7 per cent of cases. Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape account for fewer than five per cent of cases. There have been over 3.5 million tests conducted, 30 560 of which were in the previous 24 hours.
