Covid-19: Positive cases in Gauteng climb to 117 895

More than 5 000 new cases were recorded in the province since Wednesday.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 117 895 with 51 256 recoveries and 853 deaths on Thursday.

The Department of Health on Friday, said out of 48 327 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 30 527 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and they were de-isolated.

The department said 5 748 people were currently hospitalised in public and private facilities.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

– Johannesburg: 52 289 cases and 27 627 recoveries
– Ekurhuleni: 26 258 cases and 11 629 recoveries
– Tshwane:  20 799 cases and 8 032 recoveries
– Sedibeng: 6 629  cases and 1 265 recoveries
– West Rand: 7 871 cases and 2 703 recoveries

City of Tshwane 20 799 cases breakdown:

– City of Tshwane 1: Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, Winterveldt, Soshanguve, Rosslyn, Karen Park, Wonderboom, Akasia, Nina Park, Orchards, Amandasig, Theresa Park, Pretoria North (4 410);
– City of Tshwane 2: Hammanskraal, Temba, Suurman, Dilopye, Stinkwater, Ramotse, New Eersterust, Kameeldrift, Pyramid/Rooiwal, Doornpoort, Kekana Gardens, Marokolong, Randstown, Kanana (1 287);
– City of Tshwane 3: Atteridgeville, Laudium, Pretoria CBD, Hercules, Danville, Saulsville, Lotus, Pretoria West (6 559);

In the Tshwane district, the department reported 90 unallocated cases.

– City of Johannesburg B: Randburg, Rosebank, Emmarentia, Greenside, Melville, Mayfair, Northcliff, Parktown, Parktown North (5 711);
– City of Johannesburg C: Roodepoort, Constantia Kloof, Northgate, Florida, Bram Fisherville (6 980);
– City of Johannesburg D: Doornkop, Soweto, Dobsonville, Protea Glen (11 643);
– City of Johannesburg E: Alexandra, Wynberg, Sandton, Orange Grove, Houghton (8 584);
– City of Johannesburg F: Inner City, Johannesburg South (9 831); and

The department said there were 358 unallocated cases within the district.

Ekurhuleni 26 258 cases breakdown:

– Ekurhuleni East 2: Springs, Kwa-Thema, Duduza, Nigel (2 677);
– Ekurhuleni North 1: Birchleigh, Birchleigh North, Bonaero Park, Crystal Park, Erin, Ethafeni, Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein, Tembisa, Winnie Mandela (5 130);
– Ekurhuleni North 2: Bedfordview, Benoni, Boksburg, Chief Albert Luthuli, Dan Kubheka, Edenvale, Endayeni, Esangweni, Itireleng, Kemston, Lethabong, Ramaphosa, Reiger Park, Van Dyk Park (6 189);
– Ekurhuleni South 1: Alberton, Brackenhurst, Eden Park, Primrose, Germiston, Leondale, Dawn Park, Tswelopele, Vosloorus, Villa Liza (6 427); and

The district had 50 unallocated cases.

Sedibeng district 6 629 cases breakdown:

– Lesedi: 1 072 cases;
– Emfuleni: 4 933 cases;
– Midvaal: 582 cases;

And 42 unallocated cases.

West Rand district 7 871 cases breakdown:
– Mogale City: 4 140 cases;
– Rand West City: 1 900 cases;
– Merafong City: 1 740 cases;

And 91 unallocated cases.

On the repeated areas in the stats, the department has not yet clarified on why these suburbs were mentioned more than once.
