Covid-19: South Africa records a further 2 419 infections and 238 deaths

As of August 29, a total of 2 419 new cases have been confirmed and a total number of 3 652 970 tests have been conducted nationwide to date.

According to Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize, 238 more Covid-19 related deaths were recorded of which 19 were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal, 81 in Gauteng, 123 in the Free State, six in the Eastern Cape and 9 in the Western Cape.

This brings the total of deaths countrywide to 13 981. Mkhize also reported that the country’s recoveries now stand at 536 694, which translates to a recovery rate of 86%.

Currently, there are still 71 826 active cases. Gauteng accounts for 33,6% of all cases, while KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape follow with 18% and 17% of cases respectively.

The Eastern Cape accounts for 13,8% of cases and the Free State accounts for 6%. Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape account for fewer than 5% of all cases.

In total, more than 3,6 million tests have been conducted, 20 659 of which in the previous 24 hours.
