Crocodiles captured at KZN beach
The Tongaat River has a healthy population of naturally occurring crocodiles and a crocodile farm on its banks. The floodwaters washed a large number out of their natural environment.
Two crocodiles have been captured at the Zimbali beach last week by the ZEMA Environmental team and Nick Evans of Crocodile Creek.
ZEMA Environmental manager Brendan Smith said a 3.3m crocodile was spotted along the fence line on the outside of Zimbali.
It was caught and returned to Crocodile Creek.
A second crocodile found refuge in the estuary at the beach in front of the valley of the pools (VOP).
The 2.9m croc moved up the river system into the lower VOP dam and was captured last Friday.
“The Tongaat River has a healthy population of naturally occurring crocodiles and a crocodile farm on its banks,” said Smith.
“The floodwaters washed a large number out of their natural environment, with some ending up on Zimbali’s Long Beach.”
