Crocodiles hinder search for missing man in Komatipoort River

A man remains missing after his vehicle was swept away at a flooded Mpumalanga bridge, as crocodiles hamper the search.

The 59-year-old man who went missing on Monday has not yet been found.

He disappeared after his black Ford Ranger was swept away while attempting to cross a flooded bridge over the Komatipoort River, reports the Lowvelder.

“The search is becoming increasingly difficult due to many crocodiles moving in and out of the riverwhere the vehicle was recovered,” said Captain Pottie Potgieter of the Ehlanzeni Diving Unit.

A SANParks chopper and drones from Securicon Komatipoort are utilised to look for the man.

“Strong currents in the river also hinder us from swimming in the water,” Potgieter added.

The search has not yielded positive results yet and will continue.
