Float of crocodiles hinders search for missing man in Komatipoort

Crocodiles are resting and floating close to where the missing man’s vehicle was found.

The 59-year-old man who went missing on Monday, April 27, has not yet been found. He disappeared after his black Ford Ranger was swept away while attempting to cross a flooded bridge over the Komatipoort River.

“The search is becoming increasingly difficult due to many crocodiles moving in and out of the riverwhere the vehicle was recovered,” said Captain Pottie Potgieter of the Ehlanzeni Diving Unit.

A SANParks chopper and drones from Securicon Komatipoort are utilised to look for the man.

A crocodile rests on a sandbank.

“Strong currents in the river also hinder us from swimming in the water,” Potgieter added.
