Dead body found at Joburg petrol station

The body of a man believed to be in his 50s has been found at a petrol station in Orange Grove, Johannesburg.

Norwood police spokesperson Sergeant Nurse Sanyane said the unidentified man was initially thought to be sleeping on 11th Street, but upon further investigation, it appeared the man had died this morning, North Eastern Tribune reported.

The owner of the BP petrol station, John Gatti, said: “We thought the man was asleep. He was, however, dead…”

He appeared to have succumbed to an unknown illness, Sanyane said.

Sanyane added: “We do not think that there is any foul play involved, and police are currently investigating the matter.”

Patrick Mogalati, a resident from Orange Grove, said: “The man was homeless. I had given him a pair of my old shoes on Wednesday, and he asked if he could have some money to fight a cold. The man was regularly seen around the area of Orange Grove”.

In a separate incident, the dead body of a 33-year-old man was found with the intestines cut out in Gamalakhe, KwaZulu-Natal, earlier this month.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said Sizwe Mqadi’s body was found at the KFC tavern in Gamalakhe on Wednesday after he had gone to visit his mother.

Mfeka added Mqadi was attacked by a group of men.

“He was badly stabbed, and his intestines were cut out,” said Mfeka.

The motive for the killing was unknown.
