Deadline looms for submissions on national minimum wage

The public has until tomorrow (October 1) to submit input on the possible adjustments to the national minimum wage for 2022.

Currently, the minimum wage is set at R21.69 for each ordinary hour worked.

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) Commission says it will consider comments received in the drafting of its annual report and recommendations.

In considering the annual adjustment, the NMW Commission takes into account inflation, the cost of living, wage levels and collective bargaining outcomes, productivity, ability of employers to carry on their businesses successfully, and the operation of small, medium, or micro-enterprises and new enterprises.

The commission also looks into the likely impact of the recommendation adjustment on employment or the creation of employment.

Comments and representations should reach the directorate by Friday at: Employment Standards, Department of Employment and Labour, Private Bag X117, Pretoria, 0001 or be sent to nmwreview@labour.gov.za.
