Deadly ambush: Man killed after arriving at work in KZN

Police have launched a murder investigation after a trucking company employee was gunned down moments after arriving at work.

An employee of a trucking company in Nottingham Place near the Clairwood Hospital in Montclair, KZN, died after he was shot dead shortly after he arrived at his workplace earlier today.

Southlands Sun reports that the victim, whose name has not been released by the police, had just gotten out of his car when an unidentified man approached, opened fire, and fled the scene on foot.

Distraught family members and employees remained visibly shaken following the incident.

Attempts to get comment from the victim’s family and the company owner were unsuccessful, as police were still actively gathering evidence at the time of publishing.

The motive for the killing has not yet been established. Sources at the scene told Southlands Sun that the deceased was inside the company premises when the shooting occurred.

Spokesperson for Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics Garrith Jamieson says the victim, in his 40s, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

“He was in a critical condition and ALS Paramedics worked to try and stabilise him on the scene. Due to the severity of the man’s injuries, he went into a state of cardiac arrest, and despite extensive resuscitation efforts, he died.

“The events leading up to the shooting are unknown; however, SAPS was in attendance and will be investigating further,” says Jamieson.

Montclair Police Station spokesperson Captain Cherly Pillay was not available for comment at the time of publishing.
