Delivery biker killed in high-speed crash in Pretoria East

Paramedics discovered a biker's body 50 metres from the wreckage of a crash on Solomon Mahlangu Drive last night.

Police are investigating after a delivery bike driver was killed in a high-speed, rear-end collision near Olympus late last night (May 15). The suspect reportedly abandoned their vehicle at the scene, fleeing the area in a secondary getaway vehicle before emergency services could arrive, reports Pretoria Rekord.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Solomon Mahlangu Drive in the Faerie Glen area just before 23:00, where they found the suspect’s vehicle and the wrecked delivery motorcycle in the roadway.

According to the Volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit (VEMRU), paramedics searched the dark, surrounding area before locating the biker about 50 metres away on the side of the road.

“Upon assessment, the driver was found to have sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene,” VEMRU confirmed.

It is suspected that the driver of the striking vehicle left their own car behind and fled the scene in another motorist’s vehicle before help arrived.

The scene was handed over to the South African Police Service for further forensic investigation.
