Dog shot multiple times and left to die: Randfontein man arrested

The SPCA is investigating a case of animal cruelty after a dog was shot several times.

The Randfontein Herald arrived at a gruesome scene in Loumarina in Randfontein yesterday, where a dog was shot several times, allegedly by its owner, who then left it to die in a wheelbarrow.

A neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said she heard multiple gunshots around noon while playing outside with her children.

“My children asked, ‘Mommy, can we help the dog?’ I immediately took them inside before calling the police,” she said.

CPF member Travis McGregor said he arrived shortly after the incident and found the dog lying in a wheelbarrow.

“I spoke to the man, who asked if someone could fetch the dog. He was arrested for discharging a firearm,” McGregor told Randfontein Herald.

Police on the scene confirmed the arrest and said the case would be investigated as animal cruelty. The Rand West SPCA also attended and removed the dog.
