One person was killed and another seriously injured in a fiery crash on the M4 Ruth First Highway near the off-ramp this morning.

Northglen News reports that KZN VIP medics worked tirelessly to pull the driver from the burning vehicle.

Emergency teams were dispatched shortly after sunrise following reports of a severe collision.

When KZN VIP Ambulance crews arrived, they found the vehicle already engulfed in flames, with the frantic screams of two trapped occupants coming from inside.

The medics pushed through intense heat and heavy smoke to reach the victims. Working against rapidly spreading flames, they freed the driver from the wreckage.

Despite repeated attempts, the fire made it impossible for them to reach the passenger.

Firefighters arrived minutes later and extinguished the blaze, but the female passenger could not be saved and was declared deceased at the scene.

The injured driver was treated and stabilised before being transported to a nearby hospital.

KZN VIP praised the medics for their courage.

“Our team acted with absolute bravery. They put their own lives at risk in an attempt to save both occupants,” said a KZN VIP spokesperson.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, and we are keeping the injured driver in our thoughts as he receives further care.”

SAPS officers attended the scene and have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
