Dros Middelburg to lay charges after bodyguards clear out restaurant

A businessman allegedly ordered his bodyguards to evict diners after a dog dispute at Dros Middelburg, prompting plans for legal action.

Dros Middelburg said it will be opening a case of intimidation against a customer.

This comes after a customer, who is a prominent businessman in Middelburg, and his bodyguards allegedly removed other diners from the restaurant last night.

Middelburg Observer reached out to the owner of the establishment, Chris Silver, about the incident.

Silver said the businessman came into the restaurant in the afternoon yesterday with his wife and bodyguards.

He wanted to bring his dog into the restaurant.

A manager on duty told him that pets were not allowed on the premises.

The businessman left and said he would return later.

He returned to the restaurant that evening at around 20:00 and allegedly walked past the manager at the front desk with his dog and about 12 bodyguards.

The manager asked him to leave the restaurant.

The restaurant’s Facebook post.

This reportedly led to the businessman instructing his bodyguards to remove the customers who were dining.

The guards intimidated the customers by going to each table and telling them to leave.

This incident caused the restaurant to incur a loss, as the patrons didn’t pay for their meals.

Silver said he has video footage of the incident; however, he will not release it as he is awaiting legal advice before proceeding. He intends to open a case and, as such, the footage could be essential evidence.

He has apologised to his customers for the incident and the inconvenience it may have caused.

Business is open as usual, and he hopes that patrons will return to their favoured dining spot.
