Drunk man found dead on pavement
A man was found dead with a bottle of liquor in his hand at a homeowner’s property in Lombardy East, Johannesburg on Monday.
It is believed the owner of the property arrived home and noticed a man lying on his pavement lawn. The homeowner assumed the man was drunk and asleep, North Eastern Tribune reported.
According to police, the man believed to be a pool cleaner was declared dead at the scene by paramedics. The cause of death is still unclear.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Moses Mapakela said it was suspected the man died of continued alcohol abuse, as he had been walking down the street carrying a bottle of alcohol before his body was found.
“There are no suspicions of foul play, and it seems that he may have died from alcohol abuse or a result of continued alcohol abuse,” Mapakela said.
The man has not yet been identified, and investigations are ongoing.
In January, a 30-year-old man was found stabbed to death under a bridge in Durban. The man was found lying on the ground at about 8.30am and, according to police, he had been stabbed to death.
“The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage, and no arrests have been made,” police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said.
