Durban kidnapping: Victim rescued, 4 arrested

A 38-year-old man was rescued after police traced the last of the kidnapping suspects to Mayville.

Four suspects, aged between 21 and 38, are expected to appear in court tomorrow after their arrest for kidnapping yesterday. This follows a daring rescue mission by police at a property in Mayville, KZN.

According to KZN police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza, the alarm was raised by the 38-year-old victim’s family on Sunday in Paddock on the South Coast. Magwaza says police officers, who are members of the Counter Narcotics Unit and Provincial Organised Crime Threat Desk, began investigating and soon received vital information about the suspects, reports Berea Mail.

“The suspects were inside one of the retail shops on St George’s Street in Durban,” says Magwaza. “The team summoned the assistance of the Durban Central Crime Prevention, who were in proximity to the suspects, to corner them before they could get away. Three suspects were successfully arrested.”

A search of their vehicle allegedly led to the recovery of two bank cards and a cellphone sim card belonging to the victim.

“Further investigations led police to Mayville, where the victim was found alive and the fourth suspect was arrested,” says Magwaza.
