Eagle captures impala on Skukuza Golf Course

Golfers got to see a ‘birdie’ of a different kind between the fifth and eighth holes of a Mpumalanga golf course.

If you want to play a round of golf with a difference, head to the Skukuza Golf Course. Based in the Kruger National Park, the course is known for wildlife sightings and even lion kills.

On Friday, the ‘wildest golf course’ on earth had a special treat in store for golfers – a rare sighting of a martial eagle catching a young impala.

Two videos have since surfaced showing the eagle with its prey. One video, on the Lowvelder’s TikTok account, is captioned ‘Easy shot for an eagle on the Skukuza Golf Course’.

The Lowvelder reported that course greenkeeper Jean Rossouw said the club had a competition on the day, which was also a public holiday.

According to Rossouw, they were informed of the eagle capturing the impala between holes five and eight.

“It was a very special sighting and the first time in 33 years that I have experienced something like this,” Rossouw told the Lowvelder.
