Elderly man’s body found naked with hands tied
A 76-year-old man has been found naked and his hands tied up after being stabbed to death in his home in Kelvin Estate home, Kempton Park, on the East Rand.
Sebenza police spokesperson Constable Sharon Tsotsotso said: “When we got to the scene, we found the deceased, Aaron James Hammon, in his bedroom on Thursday. His hands had been tied up, and he was naked. There was no forced entry into the house, and it doesn’t look like anything was stolen. The only thing out of place was the TV, which was taken off the wall and left on the floor.”
Tsotsotso added Hammon’s son and daughter-in-law made the gruesome discovery when they went to check up on him, as they do every morning before going to work. Hammon and his son apparently worked together in the same construction company belonging to the victim, Kempton Express reported.
“We suspect the murder took place in the deceased’s bedroom at about 1am, and his body was then dragged into the visitor’s room. Blood stains where his body was dragged were visible on the floor. His firearm was also found in his bedroom,” said Tsotsotso.
She said police suspect the intruders gained entrance into the estate through cutting the fence around the property, as there was a small hole cut open in the fence. The man’s watch and wallet were also found at the fence.
“I didn’t hear anything at all during the night, not even the dogs barking. I left the house as usual at about 5.50am, thinking the old man was still asleep, and was shocked when I got a phone call that he had been killed. So I quickly rushed back from work,” said a tenant.
Investigations are ongoing.
Earlier this month, an elderly man, 71, was killed at his home in Waterkloof, Pretoria.
Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said a handyman, 30, discovered his elderly employer, Chris Johannes Orban, at about 15.15pm with head injuries inside the house on Banket Road.
