South Africans are waiting in anticipation to hear which political party will govern the country for the next five years.

While results from yesterday’s election are streaming in, the Electoral Commission of South Africa, known as the IEC, has said it hopes to announce the final results within seven days.

That said, results are being broadcast live by the IEC as they come in.

Who is in the lead so far?

At 13:25, 4 575 of 23 293 voting districts had been counted. Of these, 98.68% were valid votes and 1.32% were spoilt votes.

The leading parties were the ANC (43.19%), DA (24.89%), EFF (8.76%), and MK (8.13%). However, it is early days yet, and these results might not reflect the overall outcome of the elections.
