Employee arrested after employer killed at Vaal Race Course

A 55-year-old employee has been arrested after an alleged altercation over horse racing winnings left his 73-year-old employer dead.

Viljoensdrif police have arrested a 55-year-old employee in connection with the murder of his employer at the Vaal Race Course premises.

Parys Gazette reports that, according to police spokesperson sergeant Josephine Rani, it is alleged that on Saturday at 20:04 the deceased and the suspect, who reside at the same premises, had been consuming alcohol when a verbal altercation broke out over horse racing winnings. The argument reportedly escalated, resulting in the victim being assaulted with a spade, allegedly by the suspect.

The suspect later reported the incident to a security officer, who immediately contacted emergency services.

Police and emergency medical services (EMS) responded to the scene where a male victim was found unresponsive inside his residence. The 73-year-old victim was declared dead on arrival by EMS personnel.
