Eskom ramps up load-shedding after shutdown of generating units

The load-shedding forecast for the week has taken a dip towards the gloomy side.

Load-shedding will be escalated from 09:00 as a result of the shutdown of two generating units this morning.

Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says that stage 2 power cuts (rather than stage 1) will continue until 16:00.

“Thereafter, stage 3 load-shedding will be implemented from 16:00 until 05:00 on Wednesday, followed by stage 2 load-shedding until 16:00,” she adds.

Mokwena explains this pattern (stage 2 until 16:00 and stage 3 overnight) ‘will be repeated daily until further notice’.

“Eskom will monitor the system and communicate should any significant changes occur,” she concludes.
