Eskom has provided some temporary power cut relief as they suspended load-shedding at 08:00.

The power utility says load-shedding will be reinstated at 17:00 – with the stage of power cuts yet to be determined.

Eskom on Friday said that stages of load-shedding will be ‘more erratic’ due to the absence of a buffer ‘that is usually provided by the diesel generation capacity between generating unit breakdowns’.

COO Jan Oberholzer announced in a media briefing on Tuesday that Eskom has spent more than R12b on burning diesel this year.

“Eskom does not have the money to burn diesel anymore,” Oberholzer said.
