Ex-convict and murder suspect arrested in Musina

The man, who was out on parole for a murder case in Diepsloot, was found in possession of unlicensed firearms.

Jappie Zondo (30) briefly appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on September 19 on a charge of murder.

Diepsloot police spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said Zondo allegedly shot and killed a man in July.

“He allegedly shot and killed a man in Diepsloot while being out on parole. It is alleged that the suspect had a fight with the deceased while they were in prison. He then went into hiding soon after committing the crime,” Mathebula explained.

“On September 8, the suspect and three other suspects were arrested in Musina, Limpopo, after they were caught in possession of two unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Zondo, known as Khawulani Ngwenya by Musina police, allegedly confessed to them that he has a murder case in Diepsloot.”

Mathebula said Musina Police Station alerted Diepsloot Police Station about Zondo’s confession and he was subsequently fetched from Musina soon after appearing in court.

Zondo was remanded in custody and the two recovered unlicensed firearms were taken to the forensic science laboratory for a ballistic report to determine if they were used in commission of other crimes.
