Fatal assault at Ladysmith shopping centre: 2 men arrested

It is alleged that an attempt to detain a suspect turned deadly after a guard was attacked with a knife.

Two men, aged 26 and 31, are expected to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on tomorrow (April 20). This follows an incident that took place on Friday (April 17) at the Oval Shopping Centre in Ladysmith, where a man was beaten to death, reports Northern Natal News.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan confirmed the case and said that the suspects were arrested for the murder of an unknown 35-year-old man.

It is alleged that the deceased attempted to steal from a store in the shopping centre. According to police, the deceased allegedly stabbed a security guard while the guard was trying to apprehend him.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
