Father and son sentenced for possession of rhino horn, shark fin

During the arrest, father and son, offered Flying Squad members R20 000 to release them.

A father and son, both named Alberto Ernesto Nharreluga and aged 27 and 48, were sentenced to 14-years in prison for the possession of two rhino horns and a shark fin, on Friday.

The Mozambiquan citizens were found in possession of the illegal horns and fin by the Middelburg Flying Squad while traveling on the N4 on April 20, 2019.

 

They were handed the stiff sentences for transgressing the National Environmental Biodiversity Act.

During the arrest, father and son, offered Flying Squad members R20 000 to release them.

They were charged and the docket was assigned to the Hawks in Middelburg.

They were each sentenced to six years for the illegal possession of rhino horns, three years for the shark fin and an additional five years for corruption.
