Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell, who was in attendance with paramedics and other emergency services, said only one wing was affected.

“It is unclear as to what caused the fire. Only one wing was affected by the fire by 01:30. Business owners started to arrive to clear their stores of any stock from the unaffected wing,” he said.

The SAPS from Newlands West, Greenwood Park and Sydenham were in attendance in case of possible looting.
