Foreign national beaten to death in Durban CBD

A march on Dr Pixley kaSeme Street in Durban turned deadly after a man sitting on the roadside was allegedly beaten to death by a group of about 50 people.

Police in KZN are investigating a case of murder after a foreign national was killed in the Durban city centre yesterday (October 22), reports Berea Mail.

According to SAPS provincial spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshuinda, police in KZN have opened a case of murder for investigation after a foreign national, believed to be in his late 30s or early 40s, was allegedly assaulted to death by a group of people this morning.

He said that information available at this stage suggested that a group of people was marching on Dr Pixley kaSeme Street towards Maud Mfusi Street.

“Two males reportedly pulled off from the group and approached a man who was on the roadside. It is further alleged that the victim was then assaulted by a group of about 50 people and he was declared dead at the scene,” said Netshuinda.

He said that police were following several leads and using all investigative aids to identify possible suspects, adding that the motive for the killing was unknown at this stage and community members are urged not to spread unverified information.
