Foreigner kidnapped near mosque in Carletonville

Kidnappers contacted his brother for ransom.

A Pakistani immigrant in Carletonville was kidnapped by five men last week Tuesday and held for ransom before being released unharmed.

Carletonville police say the incident happened when the man, who owns a business in the town, stopped his silver Chevrolet near a mosque on Emerald Street at around 18:30 that evening.

Five unknown men suddenly ran up to his vehicle and grabbed him. They drove him to an unknown location from where his brother was phoned and demanded a large ransom.

After being contacted by the kidnappers, the victim’s brother called the police. Police negotiators took over communication with the kidnappers.

The victim was later released unscathed.

Police suspect he was held somewhere in the Blyvoor area before his release.
