Four suspects arrested for robbery

Four suspects between the ages of 21 and 25 have been arrested after robbing a group of friends in Rustenburg North, in the North West Province.

Four men were held at gunpoint by the suspects driving a Toyota Quantum and robbed of their carry bags, money and cellphones in the early hours of Saturday morning, police said.

The police, who were on patrol, were informed of the incident, and they found the suspected vehicle on Middle Street.

The vehicle and suspects were searched, and the robbed items were discovered in the vehicle, together with other items, including two pellet handguns, police added.

The suspects made a brief appearance in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

In a separate incident, six suspects were arrested after kidnapping and robbing a Bangladeshi man in Putfontein, Benoni, in Gauteng last week.

Constable Moswarisheng Makofane said the incident took place on Friday when two Bangladeshi men, who own a shop opposite the Putfontein Police Station, were locking up for the day.

“One man was locking the doors and one, who was carrying R6 000, was walking towards the dustbin when he was confronted by three armed men, who forced him into a small white car as he tried to run away,” said Makofane.

A firearm was confiscated during the arrests, and the R6 000 was not recovered, Makofane added.
