Fourways man convicted of murdering pastry chef girlfriend
Sibusiso Zitha has been convicted of murdering his girlfriend, chef Thembekile Letlape, in a brutal knife attack witnessed by a 10-year-old.
A Johannesburg man admitted to stabbing his girlfriend known as ‘The Pastry Chef’ several times with different knives after a fight broke out while she was cooking.
Phindi Mjonodwane, the regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Gauteng Division, has confirmed that Sibusiso Zitha (41) was convicted of the murder of his former girlfriend, Thembekile Letlape, affectionately known as ‘The Pastry Chef’.
“Zitha pleaded guilty to the charge and was accordingly found guilty as charged. The matter has been postponed to August 28 for the compilation of a pre-sentence report, following a request by the defence,” said Mjonodwane.
NPA confident court will deliver fitting punishment
Fourways Review reports that Letlape and Zitha had been in a domestic relationship and lived together in Fourways. On May 30, 2024, during an argument while Letlape was preparing food in their home, Zitha violently attacked her.
The accused took multiple knives and stabbed the victim several times in her face and chest. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The incident was witnessed by a child, who was watching a movie at the time.
“The NPA welcomes the guilty plea and conviction. We are confident that, after hearing all sentencing submissions, the court will impose a punishment befitting the brutality and tragic nature of this crime,” added Mjonodwane.
