Gauteng Covid-19 active cases at 33 406 as total confirmed cases hit 206 018

787 new cases have been recorded.

Gauteng’s overall Covid-19 positive cases climbed to 206 018 with 172 612 recoveries and 3 268 deaths thus far, according to figures published by the Department of Health.

This saw the province to have about 33 406 active cases.

The Gauteng province recorded 787 new cases on Sunday.

The Department of Health said out of 115 514 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 93 939 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The number of hospitalised people due to Covid-19 in the province stood at 3 276.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

  • Johannesburg: 82 780 cases and 73 635 recoveries
  • Ekurhuleni: 46 306 cases and 43 511 recoveries
  • Tshwane: 44 092 cases and 35 177 recoveries
  • Sedibeng: 13 882 cases and 9 652 recoveries
  • West Rand: 13 196 cases and 10 637 recoveries

  • City of Tshwane 1: Ga-Rankuwa, Mabopane, Winterveldt, Soshanguve, Rosslyn, Karen Park, Wonderboom, Akasia, Nina Park, Orchards, Amandasig, Theresa Park, Pretoria North (9 760);
  • City of Tshwane 2: Hammanskraal, Temba, Suurman, Dilopye, Stinkwater, Ramotse, New Eersterust, Kameeldrift, Pyramid/Rooiwal, Doornpoort, Kekana Gardens, Marokolong, Randstown, Kanana (3 190);

  • Mogale City: 6 867 cases;
  • Rand West City: 3 451 cases;
  • Merafong City: 2 786 cases;
  • And 92 unallocated cases.

On the repeated areas in the stats, the department has not yet clarified on why these suburbs were mentioned more than once.
