Gauteng Covid-19 positive cases close to 150 000 mark
More than 4 000 new cases recorded in the province since Wednesday.

Gauteng province Covid-19 cases continued to soar, reaching 148 854 as of Thursday.
Johannesburg remained the Covid-19 hotspot in the province with more than 63 760 Covid-19 cases and 35 970 recoveries recorded thus far by the department of health.
The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 148 854 with 77 397 recoveries and 1 187 deaths as of Thursday.
The department said out of 59 268 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 43 242 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period, with no symptoms, reported and were de-isolated.
The number of hospitalised people due to Covid-19 in the province peaked to 7 193.
Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:
- Johannesburg: 63 760 cases and 35 970 recoveries
- Ekurhuleni: 33 243 cases and 21 453 recoveries
- Tshwane: 27 905 cases and 13 085 recoveries
- Sedibeng: 9 080 cases and 2 112 recoveries
- West Rand: 9 820 cases and 4 777 recoveries

West Rand district 9 820 cases breakdown:
- Mogale City: 5 130 cases;
- Rand West City: 2 469 cases;
- Merafong City: 2 130 cases;
- And 91 unallocated cases.
On the repeated areas in the stats, the department has not yet clarified on why these suburbs were mentioned more than once.
